Philippe Pozzo di Borgo, who was one of the people who inspired the creators of the film “The Untouchables”, has died. The 2011 production about the friendship between a paralyzed man and his guardian, starring Omar Sy and Francois Cluzet, became a worldwide hit.

The aristocrat and businessman who had been living with quadriplegia since 1993 died on Thursday, June 1 in Marrakech, aged 72. The information was provided by the directors of the film Eric Toledano and Olivier Nakache, also the elder brother of Pozzo di Borgo.

Toledano and Nakasze used the story of Pozzo di Borgo’s friendship with his assistant. The filmmakers bid farewell to the deceased with the following words:

Who was Philippe Pozzo di Borgo?

Born on February 14, 1951, Count Philippe Pozzo di Borgo was the descendant of a large Corsican family, the former manager of the Champagne Pommery house. He was paralyzed in 1993 after a paragliding accident. A few years later, after the death of his wife, he hired a life assistant, Abdel Yasmin Sellou, with whom he became friends, as he mentions in the book “Le Second Souffle”. Before The Untouchables, their story was told in a documentary by Jean-Pierre Devillers and Isabelle Cottenceau, produced by Mireille Dumas.

In 2011, “Untouchables” gained great popularity in many countries, breaking the record of the most watched French film of all time in France. It was watched by 19 million people. Philippe Pozzo di Borgo appeared in the last few seconds of this production.
