Is there only one queen? Ko¿uchowska as Łepkowska

The comedy is one of the most anticipated premieres of 2022. The script, inspired by her own life, was written by Ilona £epkowska, the creator of the success of the best Polish series, such as “M jak miłość” or “Barwy Szczęśliwa” and hit comedies – “Oh, Karol” or “Kogel-mogel”. The flavor of this ironic comedy is enhanced by the fact that the main role of the successful screenwriter and producer, the queen of the Polish film market, was played by Ma³gorzata Kożuchowska.

The result of cooperation between Łepkowska, Kożuchowska and director Tomasz Konecki (“Testosteron”, “Lejdis”, “Listy do M. 3”) is a daring comedy. Kożuchowska on the screen is partnered by, among others Artur ¯mijewski, Zofia Domalik and Rafa³ Zawierucha. The titular heroine, a real bitch, has to face life’s turmoil that she never expected. In spite of history, or “Chrzciny”

The director and screenwriter Jakub Skoczeñ invited an array of Polish stars to work on the film. Katarzyna Figura played Marianna, a mother of six adult children, who wants to use the meeting on the occasion of her grandson’s baptism to reconcile the feuding family members. The plan is brilliant, but Marianna gets in the way of General Jaruzelski, who declares martial law. Marianna, however, does not give in to adversity and does everything to get baptized. So he tries to cut off information from those closest to him. Apart from the excellent Katarzyna Figura, the film also featured, among others, Maciej Musia³owski, Marianna Gierszewska, Marta Chyczewska, Michał ¯urawski, Tomasz Schuchardt and Tomasz W³osok. “Chrzciny” is available on CANAL+ online.

“Everyone knows better”, a way to love

There’s always time for a good romantic comedy. Especially if the delightful Joanna Kulig plays in it, who performed, among others, in in the Oscar-nominated film by Paweł Pawlikowski entitled “Cold War”. In “Everyone knows better” we have a couple of lovers – Anna (Joanna Kulig) and Grzegorz (Micha³ Czernecki). They both have to face the intrigues of their children, parents and ex-spouses. Brilliant and surprising scenario provides great fun and many emotions. In the film by Michał Rogalski (“Ready for Everything. Exterminator”) they also played, among others, Andrzej Seweryn, Grażyna Szapołowska, Maciej Musia³owski and Ewa Wencel.

The creation of Dorota Pomyka³y

The heroine of Jadowska’s film is Mira, a sixty-year-old midwife who has been serving others all her life. This drives her to the brink of despair and to commit a desperate act – a bank robbery.

Enthusiasts of artistic, independent cinema should choose “Quiet Earth” by Aga Woszczyñska, a young director whose debut was awarded, among others, with the at festivals in Chicago and Thessaloniki. Agnieszka ¯ulewska and Dobromir Dymecki play a couple of well-to-do thirty-year-olds who have to confront the darker sides of their nature during their holidays in Sardinia. War fresco “Eagle. The Last Patrol”, dir. Jacek Bławut was the opening film of the 47th Polish Film Festival in Gdynia. On the other hand, “Love on the First Page”, dir. Maria Sadowska (“The Art of Loving”, “Girls from Dubai”) is a twisted comedy about whether love is possible between a girl who works as a paparazzi (Olga Bo³±d¼) and a celebrity (Piotr Stramowski).

Damian Kocur tells a true story

The film “Bread and Salt” is the feature debut of the respected documentary filmmaker Damian Kocur. The screenplay, written by the director himself, is inspired by a true, dramatic story. It is a story about xenophobia and the search for identity, shot in a precise, unadorned style. The cat involved amateurs in the film. The main roles were played by Tymoteusz Bies, one of the most talented Polish pianists of the young generation, and his brother, Jacek Bies.

A small town, a block of flats and summer laziness. Tymek, a student of the Academy of Music, returns home for the holidays and prepares for a scholarship in Western Europe. In his free time, he meets up with old buddies, incl. at the kebab bar. Over time, a conflict of locals and foreigners from the bar appears here. The tragic finale is coming. Kocur’s film was showered with awards at international festivals. a special award in the Horizons section at the Venice Film Festival and an Eagle in the Discovery of the Year category. An unusual vision of silent twins

“Silent Twins” dir. Agnieszka Smoczyñska’s (“Córki Dancingu”, “Fugue”) became a sensation at the 47th Polish Film Festival in Gdynia and won the main award, the Golden Lions for the best film. The film was also a sensation at last year’s Cannes festival. Smoczyñska told the extraordinary, moving story of twins June and Jennifer Gibbons, who at some point broke off contact with everyone and closed themselves in their own world. This story really happened. The dark-skinned “silent Welsh twins” fled from humiliation and racism to a land of their own invention. Smoczyñska’s film, available on the PREMIRY CANAL+ website, is perfectly made, innovative and visually refined in every inch. The main roles were brilliantly played by Letitia Wright, known e.g. from Marvel’s Black Panther, and Tamara Lawrence.

A mother fighting for her son in “¦ubuk”

“¦ubuk” by Jacek Lusiñski (“Carte blanche”, “Minute of Silence”) is another extraordinary story based on facts. The main roles were played by Ma³gorzata Gorol (“Magnezja”, “Plan B”, “Face”) and Andrzej Seweryn (“The Last Family”, “Różyczka”, “The Promised Land”, “Rojst” – series). “¦ubuk” is a dramatic and very touching story about how much a mother can do in the name of love for her child. The action begins in 1989. Maryśka becomes pregnant by an older man who wants to force her to have an abortion. The girl breaks up with him and decides to have a child. Maryśka slowly learns to love Kubuś. Soon she is put to a difficult test. It turns out that Kubuś has autism. In Poland of the 1990s, little is known about this disorder. Mary¶ka decides to fight for her son. He believes that Kubuś will finish school like other children. Andrzej Seweryn, who played the neighbor of Mary¶ka and Kubuś, received the Eagle award for his supporting role in “¦ubuk”. Premiere CANAL+ invites you to the film.

“You have a fate”, or where did grandpa hide it?

After excellent dramas, it’s time for comedy, or “You’ve Got Los”, dir. Mateusz Głowacki. Brilliantly played by leading Polish actors – including Izabela Kuna, Marian Dziędziel, Mikołaj Grabowski and Sonia Bohosiewicz – a story full of black humor about family discord and greed, with a funeral and a cemetery in the background. Grandpa dies, and instead of grieving, the family wonders where the lottery ticket went. The old gentleman always bet on the same numbers and just now they won. Grandfather is already in the grave, and fate is in his suit pocket. However, the family will do anything to get to the money. The unpredictable comedy from the creators of “Planeta Singli” and “Juliusz” guarantees sensational fun.
