Their hit “Kylie” was played at all discos. What was the fate of the Akcent band?

In the past, the song “Kylie” performed by Akcent was played at all discos. Artists from Romania have taken the European music market by storm, creating many timeless hits. How did their fate turn out?

In 1999, Adrian Claudiu Sîna, DJ of one of the local radio stations, started his own project, bringing Akcent to life. Soon, Ramona Barta joined the musician and together they created the debut album “Senzatzia”. They promoted it with the single “Ultima vara”, which became a hit on Romanian radio stations.

The changes in the group resulted in successes. The Akcent band conquered the European music market

In 2001, the group underwent a thorough reorganization, which certainly affected the further fate of their career. The main thing that changed was the composition. Barta left the band and was replaced by three friends of the founder: Marius Nedelcu, Mihai Gruia and Sorin Stefan Brotnei. Akcent began to create music, which is a combination of two genres: dance and pop. The first album after the transformation was “In culori”, which quickly gained platinum status. In the following years, the musicians successfully gave concerts and recorded new albums. In 2003 they released “100BMP”, but it was 2004 that turned out to be a breakthrough. At that time, they signed their first contract with Media Records Itali, under whose wings they created the album “Poveste de viata”.

The real success came only with the band’s fifth album “SOS”. The promotional single “Dragoste de inchiriat” was released in Europe under the name “Kylie” and began to become an inseparable title on disco playlists. The song was number one in countries such as the Netherlands, France, Finland, Greece and Turkey. This opened the door for the band to an international career, which they consolidated with the album “French Kiss with Kylie” and a concert tour of Russia.

The fight for the rights to Akcent’s output cast a shadow on the group’s relationship. Who is under that name today?

At the beginning of 2008, the Akcent band began to experience a serious crisis, as Marius Nedelcu decided to end cooperation with musicians and start a solo career. The group, however, still functioned on the music market, recording singles and giving concerts. The place of his predecessor was then taken by Corneliu Ulici, who soon left the squad. In 2013, there was a final split. Mihai Gruia and Sorin Stefan Brotnei began suing the founder of the band for the rights to the band’s output. Ultimately, they lost the battle. Currently, Adrian Claudiu Sîna still operates under the name Akcent.
