It all started in 1980, when Alicja Majewska was selected by a commission to represent Poland at the annual “Man and the Sea” festival in Rostock, Germany. The singer, which did not surprise anyone, invited Włodzimierz Korcz to cooperate. The duo has already had great hits. – Ala asked me to write to her, and I gladly agreed. With the music ready, he went to Wojciech Młynarski. He decided that no one else would write a better text for a festival devoted to such a topic. The poet loved the sea, he spent his holidays in Jastarnia every year, and he was able to create original works. Usually it was Korcz who composed to the poet’s text, this time it was the other way around. – Yes, typical korczów – Młynarski is said to have said after hearing the music. The words of the song turned out to be exceptional. – It’s supposed to be about the sea, and actually every woman who listens to it thinks “this is about me” – the composer.
Alicja Majewska received the Grand Prix at the International Festival in Rostock for “There’s Still a Sail of White”. Earlier, she also took second place at the Polish Song Festival in Opole, during which it was decided to “test” the song. But it wasn’t the awards that mattered most.

As Majewska recalled, the piece hit the right strings and at the right time. Seafarers’ wives, but not only, wrote letters to the artist in which they confessed that they recorded the song several or a dozen times on cassette and played it over and over again in order to somehow endure a long and often painful separation. – This is my most important song. It was created in a specific time, 1980, Solidarity, then martial law, emigration, separations. Women wrote to me who had to wait for years for the return of their men and for whom Młynarski’s words were a consolation about the fact that a man’s thing is to be far away, and a woman’s thing is to wait faithfully – opening Alicja Majewska.
