Frycz claims that even Sienkiewicz would like such a Western. Just look at the cast

“Miasteczko Brighthope” is the first western radio show in Poland. In the history of Przemek Corso, there were, among others: Wojciech Mecwaldowski, Borys Szyc, Bartosz Bielenia and Osi Ugonoh, and Jan Frycz as the narrator. The song for the radio play was recorded by Wojciech Waglewski, Fisz and Emade.

The Western gave us classics like Rio Bravo, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, and Larry McMurtry’s South of the Brazos. Gone are the days of John Wayne and Clint Eastwood, who turned 93 on May 31. A new chapter in the history of cowboy stories was written by Przemek Corso, who in the story of the town of Brighthope presented a symbolic clash of the new and the old vision of the western.

“Miasteczko Brighthope” – the first western radio play in Poland with a star cast

The radio drama produced by Storytel based on Corso’s text has a truly star cast. Sheriff Bridges was played by Borys Szyc, Wojciech Mecwaldowski played MacGregor, Bartosz Bielenia lent his voice to Crane and Osi Ugonoh – Hope. The narrator of the story is Jan Frycz.

As we read in the description of the plot of the radio play, the action takes place after a series of successful train robberies organized by the MacGregor gang. Its members decide to separate from the leader, but the past cannot be erased, and the team will soon catch up with the consequences of past crimes. The gang made powerful enemies who set the famous Pinkerton agents on their trail. Led by the ruthless Crane, they will do everything to hunt down the criminals and bring MacGregor alive to Washington State, where he will suffer a long and painful penance for his sins. The arena of their final clash will be the town of Brighthope, built on dreams of a new world and social equality – far from the ruthless laws that govern the Wild West. The residents, along with Sheriff Bridges, will have to choose between evil and worse evil. But won’t such a choice lead to their doom? The confrontation between MacGregor, Crane and Bridges will be inevitable, and the world around them will literally go up in flames.

Commenting on his participation in the project, Jan Frycz notes that Poland lacks a western tradition. “But we have Sienkiewicz’s “Trilogy”, which can be called eastern. Sienkiewicz himself was a cowboy for a while. So it’s possible that he would like “Brighthope Town”. For me, it was a very interesting voice-over experience, he says.

The song for the radio drama was created by Wojciech Waglewski and Fisz i Emade. The artists approached composing quite perversely. “We were aware that it was a western, so we did our best not to associate the music with western at all,” declares Waglewski. Fisz adds: “I wanted it to be perverse, very percussive. Because the Western is associated with banjo, with the harp, but not with the drum.
