Sharing accounts on the Netflix platform is a common practice among users – several people make up a monthly subscription, or a person who has purchased a package with the possibility of creating several different profiles shares his password with family members or friends. In the era of growing competition on the streaming services market and the first outflow of users in a decade, Netflix is looking for additional sources of profit. That’s how the bosses of the company decided that from now on they will seriously make sure that only people who live together use one account.
Netflix. Household confirmation – how to do it?
has its own definition of a household. In the understanding of the website, it is “a collection of devices using the same Internet connection in the place where you most often use” the platform. Here connection means both wired and wireless connection. If we use several WiFi networks at home, only one of them can be associated as a household. The main location can be set on the TV – all phones, laptops or tablets connected to the same Internet source will automatically be connected to the “household”.
How do I set or change a household? On the TV set, go to the main menu first and select the “Get help” option there. In this tab, we have the “Manage Netflix household” option. Once selected, there are two options: “Confirm Netflix household” or “Change household”. We can do this by e-mail or text message to the number that we have entered in the user data. Depending on the chosen confirmation method, we will receive a message with a verification link that will be active for 15 minutes. If we do not receive access, select the “Send email/SMS again” option. You can also use the “Remind me later” option for a while.
After opening the verification link, select “Yes, it’s me” and either confirm or change the target farm to continue. A confirmation of successful verification should appear, after enabling the “Go to Netflix” tab, you can continue watching. Netflix adds that if we use the platform on devices connected to different networks and other internet providers, it may be necessary to confirm that the devices belong to the household. Therefore, it will be most convenient to set it through the most frequently used network.
Netflix detects devices within a single household using IP addresses, device IDs, and account activity. GPS data is not used for this purpose. If we do not set a household ourselves, Netflix will do it automatically based on the IP address. Importantly, the household does not need to be set if we do not watch Netflix on the TV.
If we want our Netflix account to be used by someone who does not live with us, we must pay an additional fee of PLN 9.99. Another option is to transfer the account to a separate profile with a subscription assigned to the correct place of residence of the user’s address.
