It happens that drivers stick various stickers on their cars. Some are decorative, others playful. And what does the fish mean, which until recently could be found on many cars? For some people it is an important symbol.

The most common sticker on cars is probably the one informing that there is a child in the car. Some people also decide to decorate their car by sticking stamps referring to their hobbies, favorite animals or lifestyle they lead. A few years ago, on Polish roads you could often see cars with a mysterious fish stuck on them. Some people think that it can mean people on a vegetarian diet or amateurs of fishing. Nothing more wrong!

Mysterious fish on cars. What does this sticker really mean?

It turns out that the fish mark on the car indicates that the vehicle belongs to a Christian. This schematic drawing of a fish is a symbol of Jesus Christ. The custom of sticking it on cars comes from Germany. The first Christians adopted the symbol of the fish as their identifying mark. What’s more, in ancient Greek, the word ichthys means fish. The first letters of this word are an abbreviation of the expression: Iesus Christos, Theou Yios, Soter or Jesus Christ, Son of God, Savior.

Fish stickers on cars are becoming less and less popular

A dozen or so years ago, the sticker was very popular. Over time, however, not only this particular one has lost its popularity. Why? There is no clear answer to this. First of all, it has ceased to be “fashionable”. Some people no longer want to communicate their religion in this way, and some are simply afraid that if they get rid of such an ornament, the paint of the car will be damaged.
