Some people have a chance to receive an honorary benefit, which is also commonly referred to as a centenarian’s pension. The supplement is independent of the amount of the current old-age pension and will be received by seniors who have reached the age of 100. After meeting this condition, the money will be paid ex officio together with the old-age or disability pension, for life and every month.
According to data from November 2022, 2,689 people used the benefit. The group of centenarians was dominated by women – at that time there were 152 of them, and 23. What is important, the supplement can also be used by seniors who do not receive a pension from ZUS or another body. Then they should submit an appropriate application to ZUS.
Who will receive the honorary benefit? The amount is more than last year
The amount of the honorary allowance depends on the base amount applicable on the day on which the pensioner celebrates his 100th birthday. It is calculated on the basis of 100% of the average salary for the previous year, which is reduced by social security contributions. From March 1, 2023 to the end of February 2024, all “new centenarians” will receive as much as PLN 5,540.25. This is PLN 595.46 more than the recipients who celebrated their 100th birthday between March 1, 2022 and the end of February 2023. The base amount changes every year, however, the allowance granted is not subject to indexation and is paid for life in the same amount.
