From the Araba prison, to Getxophoto

Those that the writer Joseba Sarrionandia referred to in his book “Kartzelako poemak” as “the windowless views of prisons” (espetxe barruko leihorik gabeko begiradak) will be reflected in the seventeenth edition of the international image festival, Getxophoto.
The photographs taken by four prisoners from the Araba prison, in addition to 31 other images, can be seen from June 1 to 25 in shops in the Algorta neighborhood, in Getxo, within the Popular Participation section of the contest.

‘Une’, ‘Oasis’, ‘Avion’ and a fourth untitled image have been made within the training taught by Blackkamera in the center of Álava. In addition to the four selected images, this group of photographers made up of interns has sent ten more images to the contest.

A total of 250 photographs have been submitted to the pre-selection of the Popular Participation section from different parts of the world such as Argentina, Australia, Denmark, the United States or Japan. Finally, 35 of them, among which are the four taken at the Center Araba Penitentiary, passed the screening and will be displayed in Algorta shops within Getxophoto.
