The Home of Veteran Artists of Polish Stages in Skolimów has been providing care to well-known stars and people of merit for culture for almost 100 years. It is here that many artists spent the last moments of their lives. Who died inside?

Polish Stages in Skolimów in Konstancin-Jeziorna near Warsaw was created with retired and single artists in mind. Run by the Association of Polish Stage Artists and maintained thanks to subsidies from the Ministry of Culture and charity campaigns, it provides care not only for film actors. It is inhabited by musicians, but also those who have contributed to theatre, art and culture, younger people in a difficult situation or those in need of care. Since its foundation in 1927, Skolims have seen many stars and personalities who have already left this world, such as Roman Kłosowski or Danuta Rinn. Who else lived in the Home of Veteran Artists and spent the last moments of their lives there?

Barbara Krafftówna: the star of the Old Gentlemen’s Cabaret in Skolimów settled in 2021

A Polish actress, a legend of the theater and cabaret scene, for many she will remain Gustlik’s freckled fiancée from the series “Czterej tankni i pies”. For several years she was associated with the Cabaret of Old Men, where she performed, among others, cult songs written by Jeremi Przybora and Jerzy Wąsowski. In the 1980s she lived in Los Angeles, in the late 1990s she returned to Poland. In 2021, she moved to the House of Veteran Artists in Skolimów. The actress died on January 23, 2022.

The unforgettable “Working Woman” from “Czterdziestolatka”, Hermenegilda Kociubińska and the legend of the Old Gentlemen’s Cabaret had over 120 film, theater and television roles to her credit. The artist lived in Skolimów a few years before her death. She died on March 3, 2011, she was 98 years old.

Jerzy Połomski: the artist moved to Skolimów in 2021

In the 1960s and 1970s he was one of the most popular Polish artists. He reigned on the stage, and had many unforgettable hits on his account. he lived in Skolimów in June 2021 and stayed in the Home of Veteran Artists until the end of his life. The move was determined by his deteriorating health, as the singer did not want to burden anyone with care. He died on November 14, 2022.

Andrzej Szopa: the actor known from “Plebania” moved to the House of Veteran Artists in 2016

Andrzej Szopa was mainly associated with series such as “Plebania” or “Samo Życie”, although he also appeared in films, including “Big Shu”. He also has unforgettable dubbing roles, e.g. in Harry Potter and The Hobbit. The actor died on December 31, 2022, he was 70 years old. In 2016, he underwent back surgery in the United States, during which he suffered a stroke and lost the use of the left half of his body. Since then, he has been in a wheelchair and stayed at the Home of Veteran Artists.
