“It is with great sadness and regret that we would like to inform you that last night, our dear friend and a great actor associated with our Theater since 1986, Maciej Kujawski, passed away” – informed the team of the capital’s Kwadrat Theater in the morning of May 25, 2023.
Maciej Kujawski is dead. He was the voice of Winnie the Pooh
Maciej Kujawski was born on February 23, 1953 in Warsaw – three months before his death he celebrated his 70th birthday. In 1978, he graduated from the Warsaw PWST, and from 1979 to 1986 he was associated with the capital’s Teatr na Woli, and then permanently associated with the Kwadrat Theatre.
He made his debut in 1977, when he played in the play “Podróż po Warszawski” directed by Andrzej Strzelecki – the director of the theater in Wola was then the legendary Tadeusz Łomnicki. At the Square Theater he performed, among others, in such performances as “Crazy Scissors”, “Servant of Two Masters”, “Donkey Summer”, “My Friend Harvey”, “Friendly Souls” and “Through the Park for God”. “We will never forget your stage presence” – write the members of the theater team.
From 1992 to 2000, the actor played various roles in the cult children’s program “Ciuchcia”. In the TV series “Kulfon, what will grow out of you”, he played, for example, the leader of robbers. In 2002, Maciej Kujawski took over the role of Winnie the Pooh after the late Jan Kociniak – for the last 21 years, it was his voice that children watching new Disney productions heard. The actor also took part in the recording of Polish dialogues for such productions as “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban” (he played Professor Remus Lupin) or “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug”. He was also involved in the work on the dubbing for the game “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt”.
Maciej Kujawski also appeared in popular TV series. In the popular TVP sitcom “Lokatorzy” he played Mr. Jurek, the owner of the “Muszelka” pub, where the main characters spent a lot of time. In “Na Wspólnej” he played the role of Stefan Dębek, Marek Ziminiński’s friend and partner. He also appeared in “Exam from Life”, “39 and a half”, “Graczyki”, “Czasa honoru” or “Prawie Agaty”.
“Despite the adversities that stood in your way, you always managed to make us laugh. When you saw that someone was sad, you would come and speak with the voice of Winnie the Pooh (…), and then the day would get better. Maciek was always our sun and he always came out from behind the clouds when someone needed it. Maciek, you were our dear friend and an outstanding actor. Thank you for everything you gave us as an actor and as a friend. We will miss you very much. Rest in peace “- his colleagues from the Kwadrat Theater bid farewell to the artist .
