She reworked a 1949 wedding dress. She shared the results online

Mariah Sliwinski is a fashion designer and seamstress who works under the name @mariahsliwinski on the TikTok platform. She is a supporter of the recently popular upcycling, i.e. the process in which people transform used fabrics or existing products into new clothes. Recently, she boasted of a makeover of one of the wedding projects, which it came from the client’s grandmother, back in 1949. She came on her special day and wanted to create a family heirloom, but slightly modify it so that was in line with current trends.

The satin dress originally had long sleeves, large frills, a round neckline, a bodice decorated around the bust and puff sleeves. The designer reworked the dress, first shortening the length and then removing all the frills. Then, she fixed some missing buttons and cut off the long sleeves to make the dress strapless. She made a large bow out of scraps of fabric that sat at the base of her back.

The metamorphosis of the grandmother’s dress divided Internet users. Many of them are unhappy with the result

A fashion enthusiast and creator of new solutions, she reported the entire process of changes in a few-second recording on the TikTok platform. In the comments section, there were many voices from those delighted with her work over seven decades ago.

Congratulations, you know your job.

Wow, the bride looks delighted.

It’s great! And that divine bow.

Some social media users did not hide their disappointment. Many of them claim that the dress was simply destroyed, and the dress lost its charm after alterations.

It was a beautiful dress. Pity.

You have destroyed a monument.

This is a completely different dress now.

The dress looks good, but I would never ruin the original. It’s a lost story.
