Manson gave the impression of a man who was doing the right thing. He fascinated with his approach to life, and his inborn charm attracted more and more members to his sect. Finally, he decided to find a place where he would gather all his followers. It fell on an abandoned ranch located near Los Angeles.

The sect members committed the first murder on August 8, 1969. Their first victim was a student they met by chance. At that time, they were heading to a villa in the suburbs of Beverly Hills, where Roman Polañski’s then-wife and three of her friends were staying. Jay Sebring, Abigail Folger and Wojciech Frykowski, Agnieszka Osiecka’s husband, were the first to die. The pregnant 26-year-old begged for mercy, but the perpetrators had no scruples. First, they strangled her by making loops of nylon cord around her neck. She was later stabbed.

However, Manson’s motives for pointing to the victims have not been established. Both the killers and their leader were sentenced to life imprisonment.
