Euskal Herriko Musika Bulegoa has awarded this afternoon in Errenteria the most outstanding musical projects of the past year, at the gala of the seventh edition of the Musika Bulegoa Awards held in the Leku Ona Fabrika space.
The awards have been, as explained by the representative of Euskal Herriko Musika Bulegoa Amaia Ispizua, “a faithful reflection of the diversity of Basque music”, and proof of this are the 120 projects examined and the list of winners.
The jury has highlighted the latest works by Merino Gray (the album “Zerua orain”), Su Tagar (“Alarm”), neomak (first album of the group, self-titled), MICE (the album “Lautada”), Ines Osinaga (“#itsasoadabidebakarra”), Teresa Catalan (the work “La victoria vacía”, commissioned by the Euskadiko Orkestra on the occasion of the 500th anniversary of Elkano’s world tour), Enrique Solinis (“Ars Lachrimae”, disc of 16 songs for baroque lute) and Elena Setien (“Unfamiliar minds”).
They have formed part of the jury Agus Barandiaran, trikitilari from Korrontzi; Gabriel Erkoreka, composer and Musikene teacher; Gema Sánchez, coordinator of AIEnRUTA; Iker Bárbara, head of the Zarata Mondo Sonoro magazine; Maite Larburu, violinist and singer-songwriter; Maria Taosa, journalist for Radio 3; Mark Barnes, responsible for scores and documentation at Eresbil – Basque Music Archive; and Sonia Durán, manager of the Independent Phonographic Union (UFI).
In addition, the Etxepare Institute has awarded the group Oreka TX for his work in the international dissemination of Basque music. Both the eight winners by the jury and Oreka TX will receive a prize of 2,000 euros and a sculpture by the artist Fernando Mikelarena.
Finally, the Musika Bulegoa board of directors has awarded an honorary award to the musician Kepa Junkera “for bringing Basque culture and the Basque language to the international scene in an innovative way, adapting the trikitixa to new rhythms, instruments and styles”.
