Electric scooters have become extremely popular in recent years. In larger cities, you will find them basically on every corner. Can you walk them on the sidewalk? By law, this is only allowed in certain cases. Drivers are punished for breaking the rules.

Electric Scooter Regulations. Fines reach up to PLN 2,500

The scale of fines has increased significantly in recent years. The fines for driving under the influence of alcohol have been particularly toughened. This also applies to electric scooters. People riding a popular two-wheeler while intoxicated (above 0.5 per mille in the blood) can pay up to PLN 2,500. Drivers found to be between 0.2 and 0.5 per mille will be fined PLN 1,000. However, this is not the end of moving on an electric scooter.

PLN 300 fine – this is the penalty for drivers who transport passengers using an electric scooter. According to the law, only one person can ride on the vehicle. What’s more, you can also get a fine for speeding. According to the regulations, you must not exceed 20 km/h while riding a two-wheeler. For non-compliance with this rule, we can also pay up to PLN 300.

Can an electric scooter be ridden on the pavement? Only in special cases

Although riding a scooter on the pavement is legal in several situations. First of all, vehicles of this type should use a bicycle path. However, if it is not present on the route, the driver of the electric scooter may go to the road where the speed limit is 30 km/h. If there is no such restriction, the driver of a two-wheeler is obliged to move on the pavement. However, you should remember about a few rules regarding driving on the promenade.

First of all, the scooter cannot exceed the speed similar to walking pace. Usually it is between 4 and 6 km/h. What’s more, the driver must give way to others and not hinder pedestrian traffic. Violation of any of these provisions is punishable by a fine of PLN 100 to PLN 300.
