We will remember Croatia at Eurovision 2023 for a long time, but what did Let 3 sing about? Here is the text of “Mama ©C!” in Polish

Eurovision 2023 was won by the representative of Sweden, Loreen with the song “Tattoo”. However, during the competition, she was not the only one who stood out on the stage. The most unusual and questionable performance was provided by Croatia. What did the group Let 3 sing about in the song “Mama ©C!”? We explain.

The Eurovision final ended with an even fight between Sweden and Finland. In the end, Loreen won the 67th Eurovision Song Contest with 177 points, thus becoming the first woman in history to win the competition twice. The second place belonged to Sweden, and the podium was closed by Israel. However, it is Croatia’s performance that seems to be the one that will stay in the fans’ memory for the longest.

Eurovision 2023. Croatia – what is Let 3 singing about? Polish text

Croatia finished eighth with 76 points. The country was represented by the rock band Let 3, founded in 1987. The group quickly gained popularity thanks to its controversial and often even vulgar performances. The musicians have been supporting women, the LGBTQ+ minority with their activities for years and take a clear position on conservative politics and the Catholic Church, clearly opposing both.

Let 3’s performance at Eurovision 2023 can be counted among the most colorful and characteristic in the entire competition. The musicians dressed in colorful costumes and wearing heavy make-up were joined on stage by Žanil Tataj Žak playing the role of “Njinle”, which means “Lenin”, referring to the words of the song.

“Mama ŠC!”, because it was this single that Croatia performed on stage in Liverpool, was released on January 20, 2023. The mysterious title of the song refers to the Russian letter of the alphabet, and the text is supposed to carry an anti-war message. The group emphasized in interviews that the song mocks dictators, in particular Vladimir Putin and his decision to start a war with Ukraine. The tractor, which appears repeatedly in the chorus of the song, symbolizes the president of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, who supported Russia and gave the vehicle to Putin for his 70th birthday. In the song Let 3, he calls both leaders “psychopaths”, but does not do so explicitly, because the regulations prohibit political references in the presented songs.

Due to the fact that Let 3 did not opt for an English version of the song, few viewers understood what the group wanted to convey in their song. If you are curious what exactly the words in “Mama ŠC!” mean, below we publish the Polish translation of the song.
