Who was Czesława Gospodarek?

Czesława Gospodarek, née Cie¶lak, was born on June 10, 1938 in Heusy, Belgium. At the age of 8 she moved to Poland. Although she started practicing singing as a teenager, it was not too late for her to become a star of the world stage. At the insistence of the composer, Władysław Szpilman, she adopted an artistic pseudonym, as her first and last name could cause problems with pronunciation. Her vocal abilities allowed her to achieve operatic successes, but she gave them up for the stage. She performed not only in Poland, but also around the world. She could be seen on stage together with Frank Sinatra, and Patrick Valette, consultant of the house of Dior, took care of her appearance. She loved this life. She loved her audience, and they reciprocated. She wanted to sing until the end of her days. In her career, she received numerous awards, in February 2011 she celebrated the benefit of the 50th anniversary of artistic activity. Unfortunately, she spent the last years of her life sewn up in her home, with animals, in misery and poverty. She died in December 2011, and the cause of her death is still unexplained.
