She dropped out of college to work in radio. She quickly made a career
Even as a child, her life was not easy. The despotic mother demanded absolute submission from her, and she severely punished any interaction with the boys. Due to a misunderstanding in her teenage years, Maria Czubaszek tried to take her own life several times. When she drastically cut and dyed her hair for the first time, her mother told her to leave the family home. She was never the best in school. She was expelled from Batory high school a few months before her final exams, but eventually she passed her final exams. Then she continued her education at the University of Warsaw, studying first English philology and then journalism. She has not completed any of the majors.
She made her debut in 1960, writing texts for commercials in Channel I of Polish Radio. Later, she joined Radio Trójka, where she created scripts for radio plays and hosted the program “Running through gossip”. She wrote the lyrics of many songs by popular singers, including Ewa Bem, Krystyna Prońko and Ryszard Rynkowski, and was also responsible for the dialogues for such series as “Brzydula” and “Na Wspólnej”. For years, she evaluated performances during cabaret reviews and co-created scenarios for performances staged on the boards of the capital’s theaters. Her satirical columns were published in magazines such as “Szpilki” and “Kawa”. The Unusual Blog, which she ran for Wirtualna Polska, commenting on current events, turned out to be a great success.

Her first husband was Wiesław Czubaszek, whom she married in 1959 not out of love but out of common sense, because as a young couple they had a chance to get a flat from the state. After 9 years, they divorced, and the writer became involved with Jacek Jenczarski. But the love of her life was a musician. They met in late 1973 and got married three years later. In the program “Attention! Backstage of fame” she revealed that she had had an abortion twice. She claimed that she had no maternal instinct and did not want children. Her bold confession caused a scandal, but unfavorable opinions made no impression on her.
She functioned on coffee and cigarettes. She wasn’t afraid of death
Although Maria Czubaszek was considered a cheerful person, in the last years of her life she lost her optimism, which was especially felt by her relatives. “I’m alive because I’m alive, and when it’s over, it’s over, and so what?” — . She did not take care of herself, often functioning only on coffee and cigarettes, which effectively destroyed her body. – I do not want to live. The only thing that keeps me alive is the awareness that when I’ve had enough, I’ll end it alone, she told Artur Andrus, revealing that she collects newspaper clippings on euthanasia. Maria Czubaszek died on May 12, 2016 in Warsaw. The cause of death was exhaustion of the body and problems related to the circulatory system.
