The director of the Wybrzeże Theater, Adam Orzechowski, informed about the death of the outstanding artist on May 10. “Today, Krystyna Łubieńska, who has been associated with our theater for several decades, died in Sopot,” the TVN24 service quoted a statement. The actress passed away at the Social Welfare Home in Sopot, where she had just arrived two days earlier. She was 90 years old.

Krystyna Łubieńska was born on August 3, 1932 in Warsaw. She made her debut at the Young Spectator Theater in Wrocław in 1951, when she played the role of Hela in “Wodewil Warszawski” by Zdzisław Gozdawa and Wacław Stępień, dir. Wacław Zdanowicz. She also played on the stage of the Lower Silesian Theater in Jelenia Góra, Rozmaitości in Wrocław, Ziemi Mazowiecka in Warsaw, Śląski in Katowice and them. Osterwy in Lublin.
The actress was noticed by Zygmunt Hubner, who hired her from Lower Silesian theaters to work in Gdańsk. In 1958, she made her debut at the Wybrzeże Theater, which was gaining popularity at the time, as Beautiful Helena in Jean Giraudoux’s play “There Will Be No Trojan War”. As we read on the theater’s website, after such a great start, Łubieńska played the main roles in performances by Bohdan Korzeniewski, Andrzej Wajda, Jerzy Goliński and Hübner himself. She also tried her hand abroad. Together with Adolf Dymsza, she promoted Janusz Nasfeter’s film My Old, popular at that time, in America.
