His wife Antonina informed about the death of Andrzej Bilik by publishing an hourglass with sad information. “We’ve been together for 55 years, for better or for worse. There will be no such person in my life,” writes the widow of a well-known journalist. According to a statement published, among others, by the Wirtualne Media portal, Bilik died on April 30 in the morning.
A well-known Polish journalist, columnist and diplomat was born in Sosnowiec. After studying journalism at the University of Warsaw, he worked for Polish Radio and Polish Television, where he was a correspondent from Brussels and Paris. Later, he became the director of the Information Programs Editorial Office and vice-chairman of the Intervision Council. In 1988, he received the Golden Screen award for the series “Politics, Politicians”.

In the years 1965-1969 he was the press and cultural attaché of the Polish Embassy in Algiers, and in the years 1995-1999 he was the Polish ambassador to Algeria. He also discussed at the Round Table, where he represented the party and government side, dealing with mass media issues.
Bilik was also the author of books such as “Embassy”, “Piórem i camera” and “Wszystko o EWG”. In 2012, the author in the magazine “Angora” lamented the state of contemporary journalism. “Quick processing, production of celebrities – stars. Art suffers a lot. All rules are broken. Today, the interviewer becomes more important than his interlocutor. Generally, there is more news, but there is no censorship” – Bilik scored his colleagues at the time.
In 1984, Stefan Kisielewski placed Bilik on the so-called Kisiel leaves. This is a list of names entitled “My types” published in “Tygodnik Powszechny”, which presents journalists of the Polish People’s Republic who were available to the authorities during martial law. According to the collected materials of the Institute of National Remembrance, in the years 1972-1980 Andrzej Bilik collaborated with the Security Services under the pseudonym “AB” and “Bod”. His documentation consists of 5 volumes of notes, and Bilik’s name also appears on the list of revealed agents and officers of the Military Information Services.
