Although Jan Kobuszewski was one of the most outstanding Polish actors and comedians, he got into theater school only on the second attempt. During his almost 60-year career, he has created many characters on both the small and the big screen. However, he was most fulfilled in the theatre, which he treated as his second home.

OJ was said to be “the wasted Chaplin of Polish cinema”. He was extremely talented, both dramatic and comedic, as evidenced by the multitude of characters he created. However, he never got a role in which he could fully use his potential and talent.

he was a graduate of the State Dramatic School of the Puppet Theater and the Warsaw PWST. He made his stage debut with the diploma role of Cara Dormindon in the play “Soldier and Poverty”. After graduating, he joined the National Theater in Warsaw, and later Kwadrat. He also performed in front of the Łódź audience, e.g. in the Classical and Grand Theatres. – We are a service point. He appeared on the screen for the first time in 1955 in the episodic role of a Frenchman in the war drama “Hours of Hope” directed by Jan Rybkowski. He has created many excellent characters in such cult productions as “Hallo Szpicbeard, or the last performance of the king of safe-crackers”, “Alternatywy 4”, “About two people who stole the moon” or .

The breakthrough in Kobuszewski’s career came thanks to the radio show “The Poszepszyński Family”, in which he played the role of Jacek’s grandfather. Later, he became involved with the television “Kabaret Olga Lipińska”, showing himself to the viewers from a completely different, more comedic side. “God gave us life for this, so that we could joyfully go around the world,” he used to say. He also co-hosted the hugely popular entertainment program “Macie what you want” on the air. On the wave of recognition, he also joined the Dudek cabaret group, and later also joined Kabaret Starniczych Panów. Viewers loved his sketches and funny sayings. “I like deception.” I believe what I see, and when I watch tragic moments on screen, I have to call back to reality. And in romantic comedies, I’m happy to be moved to tears. So I’m a good spectator, that’s the only good thing I can say for sure about myself – about myself.

It was love at first sight. They were together until the actor’s death

Privately, he was considered a calm and warm man. Throughout his life he was associated with a colleague, Hanna Zebrzeska, whom he married in 1956. In many interviews, he argued that it was love at first sight. “This love fell on me like a thunderbolt from the blue. I’ve never seen a more beautiful girl before,” he recalled. The fruit of this marriage was a daughter, Maryna. The acting couple led a happy life away from the glare of flashes and media hype. They both agreed that the most important things in a relationship are patience, tolerance and fantasy. “I’ve never had any doubts that I did the best thing in my life by marrying that big guy with his head in the clouds.” Janek is two meters of serenity – said the actor’s wife. died on September 28, 2019 at his home in Warsaw. He was 85 at the time of his death.
