At 11:00 in London (05:00 in Ecuador) the coronation ceremony King Charles III as sovereign of the United Kingdom and the other fourteen kingdoms that are a part of it unity of peoples.

After the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, 74-year-old Carlos Felipe Arturo Jorge ascended the throne in September 2022, moving the line of succession to the throne, whose first heir is Prince of Wales William, and later their three children: Jorge, Carlota and Luis. The second son of Carlos and Diana appears already in fifth place: Enrique, who lives with his family in the United States.

This bank holiday weekend’s festivities take place this Saturday, May 6, at Westminster Abbey, where Operation Orb de Oro, as the device to protect entrances and exits from the abbey is called, will include snipers on the roofs and plainclothes police, detectors metal, sniffer dogs and a no-fly zone over the city center.

The police will also use facial recognition technology on the streets.

Tens of thousands of onlookers will fill the Mall, the grand avenue that runs from Buckingham Palace, to see the royal carriage pass, escorted by thousands of soldiers in uniform, for the first coronation of a British monarch in 70 years.

It is known from Buckingham Palace that during the ceremony, a special ring will be placed on the ruler’s fourth finger, symbolizing that he is “married” to the people, and the other – which was used during the coronation of the Queen Mother – will be delivered to Camila.

Following tradition, the monarchs will wear two different outfits during the service, arriving at Westminster Abbey and leaving, the latter with a more personalized design, once the ceremony is over.

So, for example, Carlos III will first wear a crimson velvet tunic, made for George VI in 1937, and on his departure he will wear another purple silk one with gold embroidery.

The coronation party has two more parts to be held on Sunday, May 7: a lunch for 2,000 guests and a concert where around 10,000 people will be able to see Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Take That perform. (AND)
