Bogna Golec runs the popular Instagram account @bognabubu and shows how to feel good in your skin and how to choose an outfit. Its slogan is Body Authenticity. She reached it through “body positivity”, which was a social movement for her as part of her way to herself. – I went through this body positivity, and now I have invented my own term – “body authenticity”, I live in it and try to pass these values on. Body authenticity – I invite you to join my one-man movement – says Bogna Golec.
Bogna has been interested in fashion “always and she likes “simple things, but distinguished by attention to detail”. The most important thing for her is to live in harmony with herself and make free choices “How does Bogna describe herself?” The idea was suggested to her a few years ago by Dawid Woliñski, with whom she met on the set of the show “Top Model”. Bogna Golec worked there as an assistant hairdresser. Woliński persuaded her to apply for the program, but she never agreed to it – If I appear there, it will be only as a juror – she laughs.
Does it fit or not?
For Bogna Golec, fashion is a complex phenomenon. Fashion and life in all their manifestations influence each other. He gives the example of feminists who started wearing trousers a hundred years ago and aroused controversy at the time. Because creating new fashion trends is also a manifestation of courage. Designers capture what appears on the streets and start making money on it, which is the natural order of things in the fashion industry. The basic feature of fashion is change, although many elements remain in it permanently. According to Bogna, this is the potential of body positivity and the plus size movement, which some consider to be something that will soon pass away. – Would you tell women from a hundred years ago who started wearing trousers that it was their whim? It was a huge social change that affected, as a result of a chain reaction, the lives of all of us. I definitely believe that fashion is for us and we are for fashion. Designers have their muses. They are inspired by society, such as Vivienne Westwood by punks and culture. It has to go both ways – says Bogna Golec. “For me, trends are a reflection of society. Are we for fashion or is fashion for us? It has to go both ways. If fashion doesn’t reflect social trends, it’s not worth much. Then it does not meet with interest – he emphasizes.
The media like lists of the worst dressed, they score points for who dressed in accordance with the trends. – It is appropriate to dress appropriately for the occasion, not to come in sleepwear for baptisms. When it comes to trends and fashion – it’s fun and an integral part of everyone’s life. It is such a seemingly prosaic activity – getting dressed. And yet, it causes us trouble, raises so much controversy, says Martyna Kaczmarek, our interlocutor. He adds that positive communication is the most important thing and there is no reason to humiliate those who give the impression that they dress badly, because “it is easy to judge without knowing the value and content of the message”, which given stylizations carry with each other.
Thickening, slimming, modeling…
– My thinking about fashion changed a lot when I stopped wondering if something made me fat. This is a very important element for many girls who have complexes about their body. They think: I won’t wear white because it makes me fat; I prefer black because it makes me look slimmer. So the wardrobes are flattened and have no color or expression, says Bogna Golec. – I have a distinction between what makes me fat and what is good for me. I believe that if something is beneficial, it emphasizes our strengths. We decide for ourselves what is our advantage – said Bogna.
Stylists suggest how women with specific body types should dress. What should those with a pear-shaped, column or apple-shaped figure wear. – The ideal figure is the shape of an hourglass. The hourglass is associated with youth and fertility. This is firmly established in us. There’s no point in fighting and arguing about it. You have to choose your own path, your own definition, emphasizes Bogna. Because authenticity is more important than attractiveness. – It is not attractiveness that impresses us. Attraction affects our brain for four or five seconds. That’s how long the first impression lasts. Then people judge whether we are authentic and real, said Martyna Kaczmarek, our interlocutor.
Common awareness is now being shaped by social media. They tell you what you should look like. The trick is to free oneself from their influence and learn to make independent decisions. “It’s a matter of free choice,” emphasizes Bogna. She draws attention to the double standards when it comes to evaluating the styling: – If you reveal the body, you are vulgar and provocative, and if not – you are a saint. – I reveal myself with great awareness and I want my body to be a manifesto. I’ve been losing weight and getting fat all my life, I noticed that the fatter I was, the more reluctant I was to reveal my body. It was said that it was vulgar, distasteful and that I should cover myself, I should be ashamed. When I cover myself, it is because I am aware of how clothes affect other people’s psyche, he explains.
Fashion and ethics
Bogna says that for a long time she did not have full access to fashion, because designers do not make clothes for women in sizes 42 and above. – I will touch on the subject of ethics in fashion, because there is a lot of talk about the fact that we should, for example, support Polish brands, buy sensibly, look at the ethics of companies. I agree with that, but people who talk about it aloud forget that there are millions of people in the world who cannot benefit from it. They don’t find their size. There are also no clothes available for people with disabilities, for example, among Polish brands. It’s not just fat people. This explains the phenomenon of fast fashion brands. For example, I received a refusal to cooperate with a Polish designer because I promote such a brand on my profile. But there has to be a balance in everything, says Bogna Golec.
