It is a monologue written by the actress Elizabeth Zambrano Laje, from the texts of the Spanish playwright and poet Federico García Lorca. In this dramatic piece, Zambrano tries to answer how a 21st century woman would experience a problem posed in Lorca’s universe.

‘Pray for us’, a song of voices oppressed by violence that premieres at the Paulsen Studio

The plot is woven together by presenting a woman, without a name, who mourns the death of her older sister, while going through the most important stages and moments of her life. In this journey, the character reconsiders the reasons for gender stigmas and stereotypes, openly challenging them and unleashing the anger of those who try to drag her into her traditional way of life. Zambrano does it through the voices of five different characters.

In the creative process to feed this staging inspired by Lorca, the actress and director of her own work was nurtured by an event that shocked the planet. This is the disastrous case La manada, in which a group of five men sexually abused an 18-year-old girl in Spain. Finally, her personal experiences were also included, as a mechanism to question herself, with the beliefs and values with which she has grown up. That is why the main objective of the montage is to stir consciences, generate reflections and open dialogues.
