The artist was professionally active for over 60 years and never lost his cheerfulness. “Sometimes I get angry about things around me, like traffic jams, but the reality is pink. It’s a waste of life to worry about things you can’t control. April 22, 2023 marks the 6th anniversary of his death.

studied at the Krakow theater school, which he successfully graduated in 1954. Only a year later, he made his debut on the stage of Teatr im. Żeromski in Kielce, and soon after he was employed at the Ludowy Theater in Krakow. In 1956, he stood in front of the camera for the first time, playing in Jerzy Kawalerowicz’s Shadow.
His career quickly gained momentum, and although he was often cast in supporting roles, he was able to outshine the other actors with one scene. The most popular productions with his participation are “Eroica” by Andrzej Munk, “The Saragossa Manuscript” by Wojciech Jerzy Has and “Sami Swoi” by Sylwester Chęciński. Although he played over 120 different characters, with the exception of “Vabank”, he did not like to see himself on the screen. He claimed to be his own biggest critic.
The greatest popularity and recognition of viewers brought him such productions as “Czterej armored men and a dog” or “Janosik”. The younger generation remembered him as Lucjan from the series “M jak miłość”, in which he played for over 17 years.
He lived to a ripe old age with his second wife. They were married for over 50 years
Privately, the actor was a happy husband and father. His first wife was Ewa Bilewska, with whom he had a son, Paweł, but the relationship did not last long. He found happiness at the side of Krystyna, 19 years his junior. She was only 17 when they met. Although many were against this relationship, they got married in July 1964 and stayed together until the artist’s death. “All that mattered was that we caught each other’s eye and fell head over heels in love. Anyway, she had no choice. (…) I was in love like crazy! Otherwise, I would not have gotten married – he said in an interview with “Fact”. The fruit of this love was two children, Witold and Katarzyna.
In the last years of his life, the actor slightly limited his professional activity due to health problems related to the heart and circulation. He still appeared in the TV series “M jak miłość”, but he devoted much more time to his family, especially his five granddaughters. He was suffering from pneumonia shortly before his death. As a result of complications from the illness, he suffered a stroke, which led to his death. Witold Pyrkosz died on April 22, 2017 at the age of 90.
