The Lubuski Theater in Zielona Góra informed about the death of Roman Garbowski. A touching post appeared on the institution’s Facebook profile, in which theater employees summed up the career of a stage colleague. The artist died on April 17, 2023 at the age of 87. The official cause of death of the actor is unknown.

The artist was born in 1935 in Budki Borowskie in Volhynia. However, he began his acting career much later. He made his debut at the “Pleciuga” Puppet Theater in Szczecin as a puppeteer, in the 1970s he went to the Puppet Stage of the Lubuski Theater in Zielona Góra, and in the next decade he moved to the Osterwa Theater in Gorzów Wielkopolski.
In the mid-1980s he returned to the Lubuski Theater in Zielona Góra, and at the end of the 1990s he started running the Komedianci Theater Studio there. For many years he has performed on the stage of theaters and impersonated well-known characters from “Balladyna”, “Kordiana” and “Pinocchio”.
Reminiscing about old times, he pointed to one of the photos, saying that his son Emil, who played in “Teahouse under the August Moon” – it was the Polish premiere of the play in 1964. – we read in the Lubuski Theater post.
Although Garbowski is mainly associated with the theater, he also acted in films. In 2004 he joined the cast of the feature film “The Day I Die”, two years later he appeared in “Tempelhof. Gateway to Freedom” from the “Great Escapes” series, and in 2009 he played in “8 in the Level”. The artist also appeared in Roman Polanski’s three-Oscar-winning film The Pianist in 2002. Fans of Polish series know the character of the late actor from “Plebania” and “For Good and for Bad”.
