Confirmation – how much do you have to put in the envelope? Rates 2023. The witness should not exaggerate

Giving an envelope of cash as a Confirmation gift is a popular practice. However, it is worth remembering that receiving this sacrament is primarily a religious event. Possible gifts should not overshadow him.

Confirmation is one of the three sacraments of Christian initiation. In the Catholic Church, confirmation is given to young people between the ages of 14 and 18, in most churches it takes place in April. Then there are also questions – do you buy gifts or give envelopes on the occasion of confirmation? And if so, how much to put in?

How much to put in a confirmation envelope?

How much we intend to put in the confirmation envelope should depend on the relationship and degree of intimacy with the hero of the event. Not without significance should also be the wealth of our wallet. Confirmation, unlike the first Holy Communion, is not celebrated so grandly in Poland, so as a rule, expensive gifts or many banknotes in an envelope for this occasion are not expected. Usually 100-200 PLN is enough. The godparents of a young person who has undergone confirmation usually believe that he should receive more from them, eg 300-500 zlotys. If their financial capabilities allow it, there are no obstacles, but an envelope with more than PLN 500 could cause embarrassment. When it comes to a gift from a witness who is not a family member, a symbolic gift is enough, if he wants to give cash, it is good that it is not more than PLN 100. Confirmation is, after all, an important religious event. Gifts should not be in the first place here.

What instead of money?

If someone does not like to give envelopes with money as a gift, and would like to give a confirmation gift to the hero, they can bet on a symbolic gift related to this event, e.g. a gold medal, for a girl – earrings or a bracelet. Of course, these do not have to be material gifts or gifts related to faith and the church.

I gave my goddaughter a theater voucher for confirmation, and we bought a sushi making lesson for my husband’s godson because he is interested in cooking. Some were surprised and shocked by such gifts, but at least the kids will remember it
