The first film in the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy was released in 2001 and after many years the entire series can still evoke a lot of emotions in the viewers. Peter Jackson has managed to build a world presented in such a way that the viewer feels as if he is taking part in all the events that he sees on the screen. The charm of the films is also added to the attention to the smallest details, such as Aragorn’s armor in “The Return of the King”. It turns out that there are many more details in the film that many of us may have missed.
Many viewers did not notice this trifle
One such little visible detail is the Nazgûl thread. The Black Riders were once the rulers of men who took Sauron’s rings and were later swallowed up by the darkness of the fallen Maiar. When the Dark Lord fell, they were all forgotten over the years. When the Nazgûl reappear at the end of the Third Age, many people were horrified by their appearance, but not everyone guessed who the hooded heroes really were.
However, the trained eye can immediately guess who these dark figures serve. In The Fellowship of the Ring, their steeds have a forged metal eye on their steeds, which is a symbol definitely associated with Sauron. This inconspicuous element is the perfect complement to the appearance of the dark riders who have Frodo – the current Ringbearer – in their sights. The eye at the napoleons is best seen when in the 1 hour and 10 minute of “The Fellowship of the Ring”.
However, this detail is no longer seen in The Return of the King when the Nazgûl mount flying creatures. The creators of the film resigned from the decorations of the harness, including the aforementioned eye. They probably thought that in this part of the film, every viewer will be aware of who the hooded wraiths serve. Admittedly, this element in the first part of the series highlights in a good way who these beings are, whose presence in the Third Age of Middle-earth is very important.
