In the early 2000s, Zac Efron was one of the most sought-after actors of the young generation, and his long-term cooperation with Disney brought him worldwide recognition. However, she was also associated with a label that stuck to him for a long time – the idol of teenagers and a delicate boy. Today, he firmly breaks with such an image.
Not just a Disney star
His adventure with acting began at the age of eleven, when he played in school plays. In 2002, he received his first serious offers – episodic roles in television series. The breakthrough came in 2006, when he established cooperation with the Disney brand. In the films from the “High School Musical” series, he played one of the main characters alongside Vanessa Hudgens, and the songs he performed were a childhood soundtrack for many. The actor was not satisfied with the function of a teenage idol. He decided to prove that he was not only a Disney star and began accepting offers of engagement in other productions – adaptations of the Broadway musical “Hairspray”, the comedy “I’m 17 Again” and the drama “Charlie St. Cloud”. He showed yet another face in acting creations for the thriller “Temptation” or the main role in the crime drama dedicated to the life of Ted Bundy “Vile, Cruel, Evil”. Thus, he redefined the current image.
Mental and physical changes
Today, Efron definitely does not look like a teenage basketball player from several years ago. Since 2020, he has been running a documentary series dedicated to travel – “Down to Earth with Zac Efron”, which can be watched via the Netflix streaming platform. In 2022, he devoted himself to thrillers and starred in Anthony Hayes’ survivalist film “Gold”, as well as in the adaptation of Stephen King’s novel “Firestarter” of the same title.
Demanding roles, however, did not spare his mental health. After incarnating Bundy, he became interested in Transcendental Meditation, which was supposed to help him regain his stability. Since 2013, he has also been battling alcoholism and drug addiction. He also struggled with insomnia, agoraphobia and depression, which were allegedly caused by the abuse of diuretics, which he took in preparation for his role in “Baywatch”. During a difficult period, he suffered an unfortunate accident during which he broke his jaw and had to undergo special surgery and retrain his jaw muscles. The event gave rise to numerous speculations about the plastic surgeries that the actor was supposed to undergo. However, Efron vehemently denied them. He learned about the rumors from his mother.
This Baywatch look of mine, I don’t know if it’s really achievable. There is simply not enough water in the skin. This required strong drugs. I definitely prefer to have an extra 2 to 3 percent body fat.
he told Men’s Health magazine. Differences in appearance were also explained by restrictive and overtraining. See how the actor has changed.
