RMS Titanic, the largest ocean liner in the world from 1912, was completely submerged in the Atlantic Ocean at 02:20 on April 15 of that year. Passed 111 years since this maritime tragedy of the ‘ship of dreams’, which left behind about 1500 deaths.

700 people survived the shipwreck, although now they are all dead. he was the last one Millvina Dean, who was barely 42 days old when she boarded the ship with her parents and brother. The woman died on May 31, 2009 at the age of 97. But earlier, in 2006, he gave an interview to the Spanish journalist Jesús Ferreira, where he commented on some anecdotes.

Dean commented that his father _who died in a shipwreck_ had a dream of opening a tobacco shop in Wichita, Kansas (USA), so she saved up and left with her family and all her savings. He bought third class tickets with some of them.

Apparently, she didn’t remember anything about the event, since she was a month old. However, when he was 8 years old, his mother intended to remarry and He told her what happened on the ocean liner and what it looked like, a ‘fortress’ that people couldn’t fully understand.

“She always said that the Titanic was as if it were in the same port, they built a fortress. It was huge, in height and in length; it was so large that most of the people on board did not manage to see it in its entirety“, he commented. “(The ship) had so many rooms that it was practically impossible for a passenger to know, especially for us who were traveling third class.”

The woman also mentioned the nickname ‘dream ship‘, a reference also immortalized on tape titanic (1997), when Rose, already old, _the character in charge of Gloria Stuart_ recounts her experience on the transatlantic sea.

Dean commented that his parents chose Titanic because “Anyone at that time would have chosen that. The ship was a ‘dream ship'”. He indicated that it was called that because “most of the people who traveled on it, especially the humblest people like us, traveled to start a project. They all dreamed, just like my parents, of starting a new life in America. Some succeeded in fulfilling their illusion; Others, like us, do not.

Back then it was common for third class ships to be very run down areas, but this was not the case with Titanic. The woman comments that _according to her mother_ the cabins in that section were great. “The mother described them as a little cramped, but very comfortable. Undoubtedly, the people traveling in third class had better beds on the Titanic than in their own homes.“.

Even the sheets on the beds in the third class were changed every day. The only drawback was that there was no running water in the cabins in that part, and the water in the sink was not enough for adults and two children.

Besides, third class passengers ate well. “Mother remembered that she had never eaten so much or so deliciously before. Of course, these were not the refined menus of a first-class luxury dining room, (but) we ate three times a day. Nobody could be hungry – Dean said.

Dean’s mother told him that in third class, they heard about the impact not from the ship’s authorities but from the screams of people in the corridor, which woke them up from their beds.

Dean also said that from what he had discussed with his mother and the other passengers, there were no complications regarding placing the third class on the lifeboat deck, just some moments of confusion that usually happen at similar times.

One of the biggest confusions was that the crew only spoke English and all the signs on the ship were in that language. Something that was difficult to understand for hundreds of passengers of different nationalities who they did not know English and it cost several of them their lives.

In Dean’s family, three out of four survived. Her mother, whom she says was very beautiful, agreed to let her carry the boat in one hand and hold her brother with the other. His father, like many men that night, gave way to other women and children. He died in a shipwreck.

They were rescued by the ship Carphatia and taken to New York. A few weeks later they returned to England on the Adriatic and stayed in Southampton. The woman and her brother were educated thanks to the help of various foundations. As an adult, Dean worked for the government drawing maps and then for an engineering firm until she retired.
