A modest white dress, almost invisible make-up, ballerinas, no dance team, choirs, choreography or stage decorations. Today, such performances are rare, but this form of presentation of outstanding skills was perfect for her climatic repertoire. Thanks to absolute minimalism, the voice of the Polish singer sounded even stronger during Eurovision 1994.
Edyta Górniak delighted at the Eurovision Song Contest in Dublin. She was supposed to sing a different song
Recordings from Górniak’s performance at the 39th Eurovision Song Contest in Dublin still evoke great emotions. The artist sang the song “To nie ja” in front of an international audience, which received 166 points and won second place in the competition. Poland was defeated by the Irish duo Paul Harrington and Charlie McGettigan with the song “Rock ‘n’ Roll Kids”. The success of the author of the album “Touch” has not been repeated by any of our compatriots for almost 30 years.
It’s Not Me was composed by Stanisław Syrewicz in 1984. The author in an interview with the website said that he originally created the song with Don Black, the text of which was to be sung by a man. The Polish entrepreneur and manager of Edyta Górniak, Wiktor Kubiak, persuaded by his partner, commissioned the recording of a song with the Polish text of his ward. As we read in the biography of the artist “Edyta Górniak: Bez censory” by Piotr Krysiak, the words for the song were soon written by lawyer Mariusz Ejsmont, but Kubiak did not like them. It was completely different with the lines written by Jacek Cygan, who eventually became the author of the hit.
Interestingly, at the same time, an alternative proposal for the artist was created, which could be presented in an international competition. Jacek Cygan in his autobiography “Life is a Song” wrote that it was about the song “Sleep, Children of the Night” to the melody composed by Piotr Rubik. In turn, Górniak herself mentioned in an interview with the portal that she was initially supposed to perform a song referring to sung poetry, and its creators were to be Włodzimierz Korcz and Wojciech Młynarski. After consultation with Polish Television, the well-known song “To nie ja” was selected.
