In the 1970s he was successful in the ring. Then the world forgot about him. He died homeless

Ryszard Misiak was a boxing star for many years, and he had no equal in the ring. In the second half of the 1970s, he even became a medalist at the Polish Championships. Despite his success, the world forgot about him. He died homeless.

Many once respected people are forgotten after years of success. The life of Ryszard Misiak, who was successful in the 1970s, was similar. Meet the sad fate of the master.

He was a medalist of the Polish Boxing Championships. Despite his successes, he was never heard of

Ryszard Misiak’s life was and still is shrouded in mystery. In the ring, he fought in the colors of the BBTS Bielsko-Biała club, of which he was a competitor for years. He successfully won and pursued his passion, and his mentor was the four-time European champion, Zbigniew Pietrzykowski. “I don’t believe Master is dead.” Oh Jesus, Jesus, such a good man. He treated us at the club like a father. Everything I know about boxing, he taught me. Thanks to him, I made the champion of Silesia – after his death.

The greatest success came to Misiak in 1997 during the 48th Polish Championships held in Sosnowiec. He then fought in the light heavyweight category up to 81 kg, winning the bronze medal ex aequo with Janusz Gortat. Despite his successes and a chance for a sports career, he unexpectedly moved into the shadows. It wasn’t until many years later that his fate became known.

Instead of a career in boxing, homelessness awaited him. The sad fate of the master

The fate of the former champion did not go too well. It is not known for what exact reason Ryszard Misiak was left without a roof over his head, but he spent the last years of his life wandering around railway stations and empty buildings of his hometown. The probable cause of the boxer’s problems was alcohol addiction. He also suffered from gout, a painful inflammation of the joints. He died in November 2017, but information about his death did not appear in the media until many months later. His memory was commemorated by a photographer, in front of whose lens Misiak stood shortly before his death.

Today, being in the Old Town of Bielsko, I learned from the homeless that one of their loved ones had passed away. (…) The wandering of the homeless MASTER has come to an end. We will not read about it in the press or other media

the photographer wrote in the post.
