She hosted “Czar Par” with Ibisz, but few remember her. After the breakdown, she discovered a new passion

Hanna Dunowska was predicted a great career. She had a chance to become one of the most popular Polish actresses, and she gradually fell into the shadow of her colleague from the industry, with whom she co-hosted the “Czar Par” program – Krzysztof Ibisz. Fate has not been kind to her. She had to face the disease, and after winning the fight, she decided to completely change her life.

In “Psy” she played Gross’s wife, in “07 report back” – Sergeant Anna Sikora. Both productions were a huge commercial success, but this did not translate into the development of her career. In the 90s she found her place in Polish Television. She appeared not only in telenovelas, but also as a presenter of entertainment programs. Later, series saved her professionally. Ultimately, she did not find fulfillment in acting, but in a completely different field.

She played alongside the stars, she did not become one herself

Hanna Dunowska had everything – beauty, grace, personality. While still a student (3rd year of PWST) as a 22-year-old, she received the main role in the sci-fi film “Tender Places” by Piotr Andrejew. Her filmography consists of several solid items, not only of Polish production. She played in an Australian series (“Two Worlds”), an American-Polish thriller alongside Viggo Mortensen, known for his role as Aragorn (Angel of Death), a Czechoslovak drama (“All My Loved Ones”) or an American-Polish-British thriller with Steven Seagal (“Out of reach”). Even international connections did not make her a significant success. Most people associate her mainly with cooperation with Polish Television, where in 1993-1996 she co-hosted “Czar par”. A much more measurable success was achieved by Krzysztof Ibisz – a young presenter who was just conquering the world of television, aroused greater sympathy among the viewers. When he received more professional offers, Dunowska slowly disappeared.

Her diagnosis changed her life

Polish series turned out to be a rescue. In the early 2000s, she played in “Life itself”, “For good and for bad” or “First love”. However, the stabilized situation was interrupted by an unexpected diagnosis – breast cancer, which was discovered in her difficult life situation. At that time, the actress was after her second divorce and was raising two children alone.

I hardly went to the doctors at all. Nothing was wrong with me, I considered myself a physically healthy person, but I didn’t realize that mentally it was getting worse. And the diagnosis: breast cancer …

she recalled. She treated the disease as a motivation to act.

Cancer has made me rethink my life. I realized that, paradoxically, he is my ally! He made me finally pay attention to what I feel, what I want and what I don’t agree to. It was a great confrontation with each other.

– she said in an interview for “Rewia”. She defeated cancer in 2012 and decided to completely change her career prospects. She enrolled in a two-year study in the field of psychotherapy with the method of process-oriented psychology at the Institute of Process Psychology in Warsaw, and in 2019 she completed postgraduate studies at the Faculty of Psychology at the University of Economics and Humanities.

Thanks to these studies, I began to get to know myself and my needs, the reasons for making important decisions. I understood that nothing happens without a reason. It dawned on me that I had a chance for real maturity, inner and spiritual development. […] Today I am more tolerant, I criticize myself and others less, I have more patience. It’s a great gain, I feel fuller.

she recalled. After the end of cooperation, from the Center for Women’s Rights, she decided to hire herself – she became a psychotherapist at the “Przemiany” Development and Psychotherapy Center she founded. Until the end of her life, she combined acting with helping others. She died in 2019.
