Mateusz Ko¶ciukiewicz “doesn’t count on retirement”. “It is a very hard and poorly paid job”

– People have no idea about the rates – says Mateusz Ko¶ciukiewicz, who admits that most actors and actresses in the profession live on starvation wages. He also admits that in order to earn as much as Fame MMA offers, he would have to play 10 main roles in the film, and he is unable to play more than three a year.

Viewers can now watch such productions with the participation of Mateusz Kościukiewicz as the series “Bracia” or the crime film “Święty”, in which he plays the role of a policeman investigating the theft of a silver statue of St. Wojciech.

Kościukiewicz on the earnings of actors: Very hard and poorly paid work

In an interview with the actor, he emphasized that he is very lucky because he can fulfill himself in his profession and has been playing leading roles in films and interesting series for years. But he also carefully observes the situation of his colleagues, which makes him realize that their situation does not always look so good: – At some point you have to face reality: you come to Warsaw and play a guest performance for PLN 50 – he says Katarzyna Burzynska-Sychowicz. Marks:

People have no idea about the rates, the actor is associated with someone from television, movies, someone who is rich, is a star, and in fact most – 9 out of 10 – are people who live on starvation salaries. Even for the chosen few who have a full-time job in the theatre, it is a very hard and poorly paid job – this is the greatest paradox of this profession.

Kościukiewicz also notes that those who are successful in their profession and can afford to live “at a decent standard” certainly do not enjoy such luxuries as American movie stars and TV millionaires. – Actors who earn very well, worked hard to take part in, for example, an advertisement and somehow monetize their work – he emphasizes. And he does not hide that he sees the future of the pension system in Poland in black:

I hope that I will be able to work until I die, because I do not count on any retirement. I don’t think it will be for anyone our age. People will only sober up when some big institution fucks up. They will stop taking away the garbage or pay their pensions – then they will wake up, but then it will be too late.

In the conversation published on Marcin Dubiel’s twitch, he also clearly emphasized that the rates on Polish film sets are much lower than people might think. First of all, the actors don’t get any commission on the number of tickets sold, so for them the only remuneration is what they got for shooting days. Referring to the confession of Sebastian Fabijański, who admitted that participation in FAME MMA was a big cash injection for him, which improved his budget, Kościukiewicz announced:

I can say that to have the money you get in Fame MMA, I would have to play about ten main roles. Yes, to keep some hygiene and quality, that’s two, maybe three main roles a year.

How much do actors earn in Poland? The pay gap is huge

There is a lot of talk about how much actors and actresses earn, but in fact no one is eager to give specific rates and reveal how much his salary is. There is no single tariff, and many variables must be taken into account. In the case of this profession, apart from permanent employment in the theatre, it is difficult to talk about a full-time job or employment contract, the actors work in the “commission” model and contracts for individual productions. And here the rates will vary due to factors such as: the overall production budget, the actor’s experience, the number of shooting days, etc.

from Wirtualna Polska analyzed this issue back in 2018 and then he managed to determine that there is a very large spread: for a day of shooting, some people get, for example, PLN 200, while others can collect even PLN 12,000 or more. But even if such sums seem large, it must also be remembered that actors usually spend several shooting days on the set, and such plans do not have to be so many in a year. So it is often a matter of accumulating earnings for calmer months, when there will not be too many orders.

Data dating back to 2018 say that a novice full-time actor can count on remuneration from PLN 1,500 to PLN 2,000. “Gazeta Wyborcza” reported that the rates in Krakow’s Groteska theater ranged from PLN 4.4 thousand to up to six thousand. Agata Kulesza did not hide that she gets 1.6 thousand from her job. The situation is a little better in the series: “” she reported that at one stage for the shooting day “Rodzinki.pl” she received about seven thousand zlotys, and before she left ” she was paid nine thousand. According to various sources, she was supposed to receive from 10 to 12 thousand for a day of recording. He reported that the Mroczek brothers received PLN 6,000 for a day of shooting on the set of “M jak miłość”. if he works on a series for five to ten shooting days, he can earn from PLN 14,000 to PLN 28,000.

Kacper Kuszewski in an interview with “Wykolejeni Podcast” mentioned that at the end of his participation in the series “M jak miłość”, he literally had one or two shooting days in his schedule and at the same time received five thousand zlotys gross. “SuperExpress” reported that Teresa Lipowska was to receive about three thousand zlotys for one shooting day. “” once reported that Kożuchowska received 15,000 for a day on the set of “Second Chance”, Artur Żmijewski was supposed to earn the same amount for “Father Mateusz”. In turn, Tomasz Karolak for “Rodzinka.pl” and Barbara Kurdej-Szatan for “M jak miłość” received a payment of eight thousand.

in one of the recordings on his YouTube channel, he said that there are legends about the rates of individual actors and actresses, and hardly anyone wants to give the amount of real earnings. He also explained how he realized he had misconceptions himself:

Once upon a time, Bogusław Linda founded an acting agency, which I signed up for. He didn’t get me a role because he dissolved the agency. I told him: – Boguś, you are my agent, I want so much for <>. He looked at me and said:

– What the fuck are you doing! You won’t jump any higher, this is such a country. You are to demand as much as you can demand, not like in America. Where the f*** do you live? control yourself. Get off your high horse. And so Boguś brought me down to earth and it continues to this day. I know how much I can ask to keep me from being kicked out of a movie.

Pazura also emphasized that even if you play the main role in a film, you usually don’t work on the set for more than 30 days. So if someone has a daily rate of 10k. PLN and has, for example, 25 shooting days, it should get 250,000, but it often fails due to budgeting. Manufacturers often try to lower rates, e.g. by 100,000. and you have to negotiate and in the case of successful negotiations, you manage to agree on 200,000. Pazura also provided indicative pre-pandemic rates. It is also known that for a day of recording dubbing, the actors got from 500 to 10 thousand. zloty.
