American actress Gwyneth Paltrow was acquitted at his trial held in Park City, Utah, due to a skiing accident that happened seven years ago in the USA. The jury unanimously concluded that their prosecutor, Terry Sanderson, caused the incident.
Sanderson, a 76-year-old retired optometrist, is suing Paltrow for $300,000, alleging the actress skied against him at Deer Valley Ski Resort in 2016. leaving him with a concussion, four broken ribs and a brain injury.
Paltrow sought $1 and attorney’s fees against Sanderson.
Sanderson originally sued 3.1 million dollars before a judge ruled against him seeking punitive damages.
Under Utah law, a downhill skier has the right of way, but both Paltrow and Sanderson claimed they were the ones from the hill.
The first to testify was the actress who told the eight-member jury that it was Sanderson who ran into her. “You skied off my back,” Paltrow said. In her testimony, she recalled watching her children ski down a slope when the optometrist hit her from behind.
“I was skiing and two skis got between my skis and separated my legs,” he said. “And then there was the body pressing on me.” “My brain was trying to figure out what was going on,” Paltrow told the court. “I thought, ‘Is this a practical joke? Is someone doing something kinky?’“.
Sanderson testified Monday, telling jurors, “I remember everything was great, and then I heard something I’ve never heard at a ski resort, and it was a blood-curdling scream.”

He went on to say that he was hit in the back over the shoulder blades and went flying, and then everything went black. During the trial, medical experts and ski experts were also brought before the jury. The members of the jury also heard from the employees of the resort, as well as the versions of both sides.
In closing arguments, the lawyers asked for financial compensation of $3.27 million for Sanderson, who claims the stroke changed his personality and affected his ability to socialize with his family and enjoy his life.
His legal team argued Thursday that the man deserves $33 for every hour he spends awake from the accident until his death, which lawyers say should be 10 years.

“He hit her, he hurt her, and now he’s asking her to pay him three million dollars just for that,” said Paltrow’s attorney, Stephen Owens.
“The easiest thing for my client to do would be to write a check and get out of this, but what kind of message is he sending to his children? What is the price to pay [por ser famosa]Owens continued. “That’s not right, he hurt her, and now he wants money from her. And that’s why we are here”. (AND)
