The image also covers Lewandowski’s transfer to FC Barcelona and depicts how the move was perceived by pundits and fans, adding the player’s own perspective and reasons for his decision. We can hear the words that Lewandowski followed when making his choice:
If I had stayed at Bayern for a year or two, my passion for the sport would have waned. And in 10-15 years I would not be able to look in the mirror and withstand the question: why didn’t you try?
The day of his father’s death is the worst day in Lewandowski’s life for him
However, the most moving moment of the film is the fragment in which the footballer settles accounts with the death of his father. Krzysztof Lewandowski left when Robert was only 16 years old. The man was a strong and athletic man, but at some point he began to face health problems. He suffered from high blood pressure and heart disease.
He was downhearted. My dad always liked to drink beer. And then it wasn’t just one beer, it was more. He was definitely not up to something. Every time I remember my dad, I know that I was probably too young to try to help him more or to deal with these problems on my own – Robert Lewandowski recalls in the film
The acclaimed football player still remembers with tears in his eyes the day he learned about the death of his dad. “I have this image to this day of my sister crying and my mother saying that my father is dead. Crying was great. I think it was probably one of the hardest, even the hardest day of my life. I wasn’t ready to lose my dad at such a young age. At the age when I was growing up and I was really left without a father and without such support that I felt that I definitely needed. Turns out he was gone and I didn’t really know why.” in a powerful voice.
“Lewy” states that because of his father’s early death, he had to grow up faster. The same point is also made by his sister Milena Lewandowska-Miros, who mentions that at that moment there was a serious change in his brother’s behavior. The footballer’s greatest regret is that his dad was unable to watch his career develop. However, Lewandowski’s mother assures that the man’s father would definitely support him. We can hear her say in the trailer: “My husband didn’t live to see it, but now he would be bursting with pride…”.
