Genesis musicians admit that Phil Collins won’t play with them anymore. “It’s over”

Phil Collins has been ill for years, but now it is certain that due to his health condition he will never return to the stage.

In March last year, Lily Collins, daughter of Phil Collins, posted a touching entry on Instagram from her father’s concert. “Tonight marks the end of an era. Witnessing this last concert was truly a lifetime memory and an event that I will keep in my heart forever,” the actress wrote. Now colleagues from Genesis have admitted that due to the health of the drummer and vocalist, they will definitely not play together again. Keyboard player Tony Banks admitted:

We have nothing left. The well has dried up. We can’t tour anymore due to Phil’s condition, so it’s over.

Phil Collins will no longer play. Illness prevents him from touring with Genesis

Phil Collins has been struggling with serious health problems since 2007, when he injured his spine by damaging the vertebrae in the upper part of his neck. Then he temporarily had to withdraw from the stage, but he managed to return to the recording studio and to give concerts. But now there’s no chance of that. The previous ailments naturally overlapped with age – Collins is 72 years old – and the effects of the musician’s long-term addiction to alcohol. “He’s doing well at home now, enjoying life.” He has worked very hard all these years. I think he’s enjoying his time at home,” Genesis bassist Mike Rutherford told BBC One. He added that Phil Collins is more immobilized than before. For some time now, the artist has had to use a wheelchair to get around, having previously reached for a cane.

Already in 2021, Collins, performing, had to give up playing drums, which he was still sitting on in the 70s, when the lead singer of Genesis was Peter Gabriel. In the last tour, as it turned out, Nic Collins replaced his father at the pots. “It’s a bit of a challenge in a way, which is very annoying because I would love to play there with my son. However, I can hardly hold drumsticks in my hand, so it would be a physical barrier for me to overcome – said Phil Collins at the time.
