The legendary name of the Menudo group is trying to reposition itself in a place of honor in the music world. Just like in the 1980s, when the well-remembered “guts” became popular.

With a very high bar, to be honest, the famous Latin American boy band returns after 27 years of retirement and does so at the hand of actor Mario Lopez, the well-remembered ‘Slater’ from the series ‘Saved by the Bell’.

Almost a year later, they found the ideal members for the quintet and officially presented themselves on March 20, 2023.

“If Menudo existed now, they would sing songs like Bad Bunny”: this is how the members of the boy band return to the stage and confirm that their music is still valid in the memory of their fans

It is worth remembering that Menudo became famous in Puerto Rico in 1977. It reached its peak of popularity in the 1980s and after several generations of members, they recorded their last album in 1996 and in 1997 the band’s name changed to MDO. .

Menudo’s original concept had a golden rule: members had to leave the group when they reached the age of 16, when their voice changed, their facial hair grew, or when they grew taller, in order to preserve the child-adolescent image hold. the group.

The return of the Menudo group after 27 years of absence

As announced by Billboard, Mario López is the project’s new ambassador for Menudo’s return. In September 2022, auditions began around the world through digital channels.

In addition, in-person auditions were held in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and Los Angeles and Miami in the United States, respectively.

Almost a year later, they found the ideal members for the quintet and officially presented themselves on March 20, 2023:

“The guys we picked bonded right away and the music they made has exceeded all of our expectations. I think we have several big hits,” Lopez said.

Menudo has already released his first single: “Mi Amore”, which will be part of his next album.

The song has its own music video, starring the new members of Menudo and famous Youtuber Ana Emilia.
