The actor told about his special request in his own podcast “Podcrushed”. He confessed that he was fed up with scenes where he had to have sex and asked the show’s producer to reduce the number of sex scenes as much as possible. What caught the audience’s attention the most, however, was this statement:

People can’t agree that acting out sex scenes in a movie or TV series can be called cheating. Penn Badgley gave an interview to the magazine “” a few days ago, where he referred to this sentence that caused so much hype. He was very surprised at how “disproportionately inflated” and taken out of context his statement:
What I was talking about wasn’t really the end product. It was a bit about the culture behind the production of all movies, but especially those scenes. It was something like: we know that Hollywood has a history of gross exploitation and abuse in this field
Penn Badgley mentioned that he was nervous about talking to the producer about changes to the script, and only allowed himself to start talking to him when he knew that his position as an actor was already established:
