The 80-year-old was under the care of MOPS. She died at home in “conditions offensive to humanity”

On March 16, an 80-year-old woman from Dąbrowa Górnicza died. The woman slept in dirty sheets, and dirty dishes and rotten remains were piled up next to the bed. There was also dust everywhere. The 80-year-old woman was no longer able to walk and was permanently in bed. Gazeta Wyborcza asked the Dąbrowa MOPS for clarification.

An 80-year-old woman died. There wasn’t even a bathroom in the house

When a random person performing her professional duties came to Zofia’s house, she was shocked. There was a lot of chaos in the apartment, and the woman was lying on the bed in scandalous conditions. – I have never seen anything like it, these were conditions that were insulting to humanity – later an employee. The 80-year-old was dirty, had untrimmed nails and said her feet were cold. There was contact with her. She admitted that a babysitter from MOPS came to her.

Zofia lived in difficult conditions. There was no bathroom or running water in the house. She was carried in bottles by a babysitter. The old woman did not want to wash in the winter, because she was afraid that she would catch a cold. Heating was provided by a free-standing stove, the so-called goat.

Jolanta Polit, deputy director of MOPS in Dąbrowa, informed that the babysitter came to Mrs. Zofia from Monday to Friday. She spent two hours there. When asked why the house of the 80-year-old was so dirty, Polit replied: “She wanted to have everything she needed within reach, right next to the bed.” The deputy director claims that the drastic photos of the old woman’s apartment could have been taken before the babysitter came to clean it up. – We suggested placing you in a nursing home, but she refused. She had the right to do so, she was not an incapacitated person – said Jolanta Polit.

Tatiana Duraj-Fert, head of Dąbrowskie Social Initiatives, informed about the 80-year-old woman on Facebook. She also posted photos of Mrs. Zofia’s house.

There was no life envelope. “Why did the babysitters come at all?”

When an elderly person lives alone and is unable to function independently, the so-called the envelope of life. It contains all the information about the person’s health and the medicines they take. There was no such envelope in Zofia’s house. Gazeta Wyborcza’s informant was horrified by what he found in the old woman’s apartment. – Each of us should be assured of death in dignified conditions. Maybe it was clean sheets. Why did the babysitters come to Zofia at all? After all, they did it as part of the work for which they were paid – he summed up the whole situation.
