What do people who are approaching the end of life say and see? What reflections appear before death? In an interview with the Wirtualna Polska portal, the director of one of the hospices revealed this.

Although it is inherent in life, it still scares us. What happens just before death? What do people who say goodbye to life say goodbye to? These are issues that are often raised not only by scientists. As the employees note, in the last moments of life, similar issues often recur, and many patients talk about similar experiences.

People facing death often begin to say goodbye to the world, make summaries, life examination of conscience. What words come up most often? – These are very different statements, but most of them concern relationships with other people – admits Anna Jochim-Labuda, director of the Pw. st. Padre Pio, as he points out, in such moments there is often grief and reflection on mistakes made in the past. People on their deathbed often talk about the successes of their grandchildren and children with pride and joy. “Such things, when we have limited possibilities, sometimes we can’t even leave the bed on our own, give us the greatest joy,” he says.

In moments close to death, people often make summaries of life. It happens that it is then that they first think about their fate, because so far they have not had time or willingness to do so. – Sometimes, when the ship reaches the port of death, there are reflections that are an unpleasant moment. I didn’t achieve anything, I could, but I didn’t risk it, I didn’t make an important decision, I lived so fast – says Anna Jochim-Labuda. As he points out, hospice patients often emphasize that it was only after being in the center that they began to appreciate the seemingly insignificant moments of life, to feel joy. It’s important to focus on positive emotions.

Hospice patients not only decide to examine their conscience in life. Julie McFadden, a hospice nurse, often talks about her work and tames the subject of death in her social media. As he mentions in one of the videos published on TikTok, a very common phenomenon that happens to hospice patients is specific visions. He notes that many patients report similar feelings. “Sometimes they see their dead friends, family members, and even beloved pets. At this stage, they stop being terrified – – Sometimes they say that a loved one came to them in a dream. Others claim to have seen loved ones dead awake, he adds. As he points out, patients are aware that their stories sound unreal.
