naturally occurs in the region of Australia, Asia, Africa and Mexico. There are as many as 100 varieties of this plant, but at home we usually grow:
- the scented dracaena, which can grow up to 1.5 meters and has wide, slender leaves hanging downwards,
- Sander’s dracaena, which resembles a bit of bamboo,
- edged dracaena, similar to a palm tree with a plume of narrow leaves,
- inverted dracaena, with leaves falling to the sides in two colors.
Dracaenas grow best in warmth, when the temperature does not fall below 15 degrees Celsius, and in positions with diffused light. Those with green leaves will not despise the sun, but it is important that it is not too bright. Due to the place of natural occurrence, they tolerate dry air well, but in winter they should be sprinkled. The plant should be watered regularly, but in moderation.
What soil for dracaena will be the best? Do not forget about the appropriate pot
The substrate of the dracaena should be first of all fertile, light and permeable to easily absorb water, and with a slightly acidic pH. At the bottom of the pot, lay a layer of drainage well. Compost soil mixed with sand and peat, or a ready-made mixture for this species, which you can buy in the store, will work best. Remember to choose the right, heavy one, especially when it comes to the fragrant dracaena, which grows really fast and can reach a considerable height.
Homemade fertilizer for dracaena that will make it grow beautifully. It costs a few zlotys
You can make an effective fertilizer for a few zlotys at home. Dissolve a tablespoon of gelatin in a glass of hot water, then dilute the resulting slurry in three glasses of water. Water the plant once in a while and it will grow beautifully.
