In one of the final (and also very effective) scenes of the fourth season, Eddie Munson – the character played by Joseph Quinn – plays a solo from “Master of Puppets”. The heavy sound of the undeniably iconic piece perfectly emphasized the dark atmosphere of the tense sequence. Interestingly, especially for the TV series Tye Trujillo, the 17-year-old son of Metallica’s bass player, recorded additional guitar parts.

Metallic musicians delighted with the scene from “Master od Puppets”

The episode with the song premiered on July 1, and Metallica’s musicians are already seeing the effects. In less than five days, “Master of Puppets” climbed to 17th place on the Global Spotify chart (let’s add that “Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God)” by Kate Bush, who appeared in the first part of the season, reigns supreme there) , 44. Spotify Top 200 in the world and to the Top 200 in Poland. The song also appeared on 45 Top 50 Viral playlists from various countries and on the 4th position of Shazam Global. In addition, he also won first place on the rock iTunes list. Metallica musicians comment on the return of their 1986 song as follows:

The way the Duffer brothers use the music on Stranger Things has always been top notch. So we were all very excited, not only because Master of Puppets is coming to the show, but also because a key scene has been built around the song. The end result exceeded our wildest expectations.

Everything was done perfectly, so much so that some fans guessed it was Master of Puppets when they watched Joseph Quinn’s fingers move in the trailer. Isn’t that crazy? We are such an essential part of Eddie’s story and we find ourselves in good company on the soundtrack. It is an incredible honor.

“Master of Puppets” comes from Metallica’s third studio album of the same name. It was released exactly on March 3, 1986 (so the series Eddie had to be really up to date with the latest music premieres, because the action of the fourth season was set exactly in the spring of this year). At that time, the album reached 29th place on the Billboard 200 and gained favor with music critics who praised both the politically engaged lyrics and the musicians’ performance.

The album was certified six times platinum thanks to the fact that six million copies were sold in the USA alone. The record was also added to the US Library of Congress National Record List for being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant”.

The “Netflix Effect”. Kate Bush broke three Guinness records with “Stranger Things”

Let’s not forget that “Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God)”, thanks to a significant stage in the first part of the fourth season, returned to the world charts 36 years after its premiere. Thanks to this, Kate Bush managed to break several Guinness records. First, it’s the song with the longest time to release a song from reaching the top of the charts. In this case, it took 36 years and 310 days – the previous record belongs to Wham! and “Last Christmas” (36 years and 23 days). It is also the longest gap for Kate Bush herself between the last time she reigned in first places and her return to the top. This was most recently the case with 1978’s “The Kick Inside”.

Third, Kate Bush, at 63, is now the oldest artist to reach number one on the British charts. The previous record holder was Cher with the hit “Belive” – she released the song at the age of 52.
