Jennifer Maedge, returning from work on April 27, found her husband’s car parked outside as usual. She expected to find her partner inside, but the 53-year-old had disappeared. The concerned wife reported her missing to the police. Officers searched the house but found nothing. After that, they visited Jennifer twice more to look for clues. Unsuccessfully. Time passed, and the woman was haunted by the strange, increasingly intense smell that had been wafting in the apartment since she was there alone.

She found the body a few months later

According to People magazine, she first called a plumber in hopes of helping her identify the cause of the odor. This one claimed that the problem was in the plumbing and a few modifications would be enough to fix it. Despite the fact that the work went smoothly and he received a salary, the stench did not disappear.

The smell did not spread throughout the house. He was very confusing. (…) I have four dogs and a cat that wanders around, which means there are a lot of mixing smells in the apartment. My sinuses hurt then too, so I tried to figure it out and I was lost

she said.

When she was cleaning up before Christmas and went to the cupboard under the stairs to get some decorations, she discovered a tragic truth. Among the clothes and decorations, there was already a partially mummified body of a man in the wardrobe.

After the fact, the police who searched the house explained that they smelled an unpleasant smell, but decided that it was the fault of the neglected building. The Madison County Coroner confirmed the man committed suicide.
