Although nothing indicated it, the separation of Shakira and Gerard Pique became a media scandal. It quickly came to light that the footballer was dating Clara Chia Marti, 22 years his junior. The Colombian singer decided to vent her anger and created a song that was quickly hailed as a diss for her former partner.

Shakira and Bizarrap were guests on the last episode of the American talk show “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon”. They both told about the creation of the already famous song “Shakira: Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53” and performed it live in the studio.

During the conversation, the singer revealed that her son Milan persuaded her to cooperate with the Argentine producer:

He has a knack for music. He has a very good ear. He said to me, “Mom, you have to make a song with Bizarrap, then you’ll be number one.” He told my manager the same – said cheerful Shakira

However, there was no statement from her mouth whether the boy was finally satisfied with this cooperation. After all, the song hits hard on his father’s reputation. One of the lines of the song reads as follows: “I’m worth as much as two 22-year-olds. You traded a Ferrari for a Twingo, traded a Rolex for a Casio”, which is an obvious reference to the footballer’s affair with a much younger woman. Certainly little Milan was right about Mom’s quickly hitting the charts.

Later in the conversation, Shakira talked about how the last year was difficult for her, and working on this track was very therapeutic for her. She also mentioned it in the context of parting with Gerard Pique. She also added that initially she did not expect that the song’s overtones would be so great, and that many women from around the world would be able to identify with her story:

I had a very hard year after the separation. Creating this song was very important to me. It was a healthy outlet for my emotions. When we released this track, I didn’t feel like I had fans. I already had a sisterhood of women who went through what I felt, who felt what I felt, who had to tolerate as much shit as I did. I wrote this song for myself. But now I see that many women also needed this, such a forum, a voice that would represent them

Shakira and Gerard Pique have been a couple since 2010, when they met on the set of the music video for the song “Waka Waka”, which was the official anthem of the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
