Weronika Anna Marczak has so far published two volumes of “The Monet Family” (in three parts – “Treasure” and divided into two “Królewna”). Her literary debut met with great interest, primarily from young readers (but not only, although it is young adult literature). In February, Marczak received the statuette for the Writer of the Year 2022 during the Empik Bestsellers gala. In an interview with Marta Korycka, she says:
A year ago, I didn’t even think that I would have a bestseller. It actually happened suddenly and I didn’t think about publishing the book in terms of its success, because I wasn’t so sure about its success. I really wanted to make my dreams come true. I wanted what I’ve been working on for a long time – because I’ve been writing on Wattpad for a long time – to have it in my hands, to make a book out of it.

Like Anne of Green Gables? “Both are graceful and gentle, but they can also get their way”
“The Monet Family” is a story about a teenage girl who suddenly loses her mother and grandmother to five brothers whose existence she had no idea about until now. In a new environment, on a new continent, Hailie simultaneously experiences mourning, first crushes, meets the brothers and their secrets. It is a series about family, but also, as Marczak emphasizes, about the transformation of a shy girl into a self-confident woman. She admits that although she was not inspired by any book or movie character, you can find a certain similarity between the main character of “Family Monet” and Anne of Green Gables.
Both are graceful and gentle, but they can also get their way.

“The Monet Family” first gained a loyal following on Wattpad, and thanks to them, menstruation appeared in the second volume. They were the ones who asked in the comments to show this period in Hailie’s life. The writer who agreed to support the “Period in my life” campaign says:
I was surprised by the number of these comments and I thought that maybe it is needed, maybe people want to read it, maybe it needs to be discussed – because in fact, when I looked back at the books I read as a teenager, there was no such topic at all. Even when the book was written in first person, the characters had no such problems.
