What are pensioners over 60 entitled to? Discounts can be obtained by presenting a pensioner’s ID card

Upon retirement, he gives women (after turning 60) and men (after turning 65) a pensioner’s ID card entitling them to discounts in many places throughout Poland. It is also issued to persons receiving a pension or teacher compensation benefit. From 1 January 2023, ZUS has been handing over the identity card in electronic form – it is available in the mObywatel mobile application. It is worth mentioning that previously issued blanks do not expire, and seniors who want to receive a document in a traditional form are required to submit an appropriate application.

What are the discounts for pensioners? After the age of 60 and 65, you can count on these amenities

  1. Travel by public transport. Each municipality sets the amount of the discount at its own percentage rate, so it often varies from city to city. Residents can take advantage of the discount
  2. Part of the rehabilitation fees. The presentation of the pensioner’s ID card in many health resorts and rehabilitation centers gives you the opportunity to take advantage of an additional discount.
  3. Passports. Pensioners pay half as much for issuing the document, i.e. PLN 70. It is worth mentioning that after the age of 70, the service is completely free.

Discounts on rail travel. Can be used twice a year

Each senior citizen also has the opportunity to take advantage of a 37% discount on a 2nd class journey on a PKP, TLK and express train. On the train, however, during the inspection, you must present a certificate authorizing you to travel, issued, for example, by a local unit of the Polish Association of Pensioners and Invalids. The discount can be used twice a year.

Concessionary rail travel is also offered by, among others, PKP SKM in Tricity (25% discount on single tickets and 10% discount on personal monthly tickets), POLREGIO (25% discount on single tickets and 10% discount on season tickets), Koleje Dolnośląskie (25% discount on single tickets and 10% discount on season tickets). discounts on single tickets) and Łódzka Kolej Aglomeracyjna (30% discount on single and monthly tickets for residents of the Łódź Voivodeship).

RTV subscription. In 2023, these seniors are exempt from the fee

This year, seniors were exempted from the obligation to pay the RTV subscription fee:

  • who are over 75;
  • who are over 60 years of age and receive an old-age pension in the amount not exceeding 50% of the average monthly salary.

Confirmation of the document entitling to the exemption from payment and the appropriate statement (template available on the website) should be presented at the Polish Post office.
