Fewer people know, however, that most interior scenes are shot in and around Warsaw. One of the most characteristic buildings we can see in “Father Mateusz” is the priest’s house, which is located in Warsaw.
Willa Filtrówka, because we are talking about it, has been standing for years in the Wawer district in the Radość estate at 9 Drwali Street (Sadowa before the war). The house was built in 1929 on the basis of a design by Józef Olczak in the Świdermajer style, characteristic of the south-eastern part of Warsaw.

The Vistula wooden holiday architecture in a climate is a style for which Michał Elwiro Andriolli is responsible. Buildings that fit into its framework gained popularity in Warsaw and its outskirts at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. They were characterized by light structures and richly decorated pavilions. The villas were inspired by Swiss houses and supplemented with verandas and numerous vestibules. According to “Moja Warszawa”, it is estimated that currently there are about 200 Świdermajers, although before the war there were many more of them in Otwock and its vicinity.
“Gazeta Wawerska” notes that Willa Flirtówka has been rented many times for television productions over the years. In the first half of the 1990s, the series “Zespół Adwokacki” was filmed here. Since 2009, it hosts “Father Mateusz”.
It is here that scenes in the kitchen, dining room or office of the TV series priest are shot. For the needs of the series, the appearance of the building was slightly changed – a gazebo was added and the color of the facade was changed.
The villa is on the list of the municipal register of monuments.
According to warszawa.naszemiasto.pl, Willa Flirtówka is not the only building known to viewers from “Father Mateusz”, which is not located in Sandomierz. The serial church is located in Glinianka near Otwock, the Bishop’s office is currently the Jabłonna Palace, and the interior shots of the police headquarters were shot in Mokotów, and now in the Radość estate.
