We knew him as a pop star, and he hurt children in between concerts. Glitter’s dark story will be shown on Netflix

Netflix announces a three-part production with the working title “Hunting Gary Glitter”, which will present shocking facts from the life of a British pop star of the 70s, who committed sexual crimes against minors. The series will feature interviews with the victims and journalists whose efforts contributed to Glitter’s capture.

Netflix representatives in an interview with “” reported on the work on a three-part documentary series that will tell the story of the former British star. The production will present the life of 78-year-old Gary Glitter, showing never before released archival recordings.

Netflix is making a series about a pedophile

The series will include interviews with journalists who contributed to the singer’s conviction years ago. Thanks to their efforts, it was possible to provide the services with information about his whereabouts. Sam Hobkinson is responsible for directing, and the production of the series reportedly managed to persuade some of the artist’s victims to cooperate.

The premiere date of “Hunting Gary Glitter” is not yet known, but the information about the work on the series has already aroused controversy. Many Internet users do not understand why Netflix is interested in such a degraded person again. There was a similar backlash with Dahmer – The Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, which debuted on the platform last fall.

However, it seems that there will be other productions about the singer convicted of pedophilia. The success of “Dahmer” showed that despite considerable social opposition, productions about criminals enjoy great interest. In addition to Netflix, interest in Glitter’s life was also shown by Amazon and the British TV station ITV.

Who was Gary Glitter?

The singer had his greatest successes in the 1970s, when his two songs “Rock And Roll (Part One)” and “Rock And Roll (Part Two)” conquered the charts. Later, he released a dozen more singles, but they never repeated such great successes.

The first reports of the singer’s pedophile tendencies appeared in 1997, when the musician gave his computer for repair. An employee of the website found almost four thousand pictures of child pornography on it. Glitter was sentenced to 4 months, and after his release he moved first to Cuba, and then to Cambodia and Vietnam, where he served three years for pedophilia.

He returned to the UK in 2008 and was arrested four years later after another pedophile scandal was revealed. In 2015, the court sentenced the singer to 16 years in prison for sexual crimes committed against girls aged 12-14, which he allegedly committed in the late 1970s and early 1980s. He was released from prison early in February 2023.
