El Ángel Vive: La Camerata Porteña and its tribute to the centenary of Astor Piazzolla at the Sánchez Aguilar Theater

Directed by Marcelo Rodríguez Scilla, the musicians were in charge of interpreting a repertoire that included classical works by the maestro Piazzolla.

Last Friday night, the Argentine orchestra known as Camerata Porteña (@camerataportena) provided a show at Sánchez Aguilar de Samborondón Theater (TSA), to commemorate the centenary of the birth of one of the most important figures in world music of the 20th century, the Argentine Astor piazzolla. It thus joins multiple shows that have been taking place throughout 2021 around the world.

Marcelo Rodríguez, director of Camerata Porteña: the mission of a composer is to continue evolving

Led by Marcelo Rodriguez Scilla, the musicians were in charge of interpreting a repertoire that included classical works by the maestro Piazzolla, such as Goodbye Nonino, Ballad for a crazy and The lost birds, in addition to adding your own compositions, such as Again and Tango dream, inspired by the music of the honoree. While sharing anecdotes and stories in between.

Among violins, viola, double bass, cello, guitar, piano, saxophone and, of course, the inevitable bandoneon, Attendees were able to appreciate impeccable and neat executions that, according to the director’s words, have as the main objective that the public can measure the contribution and impact of Astor on the characteristic Buenos Aires sound and on global culture after all these years. All of which stands out much more after his death in 1992.

The TSA hosted a good number of people who had the luxury of hearing the characteristic aggressiveness and subtlety of melodies that were definitely created by a genius who was not afraid to experiment and mix myriad musical genres and styles. Piazzolla was everything. Jazz, rock, classical music and tango, although many in his time were in charge of denying him that letterhead of tanguero. This motivated the composer of Libertango to name your work as Music of Buenos Aires.

Astor Piazzolla is still alive thanks to those who are in charge of spreading his legacy and stamp, even more so in this very special year. If there are words that perfectly define the concert offered by the Camerata Porteña, without a doubt they must be these: a real piazzollazzo. (O)
